Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) is the government body responsible for the development and regulation of the Kingdom’s transportation and telecommunications infrastructure and systems. This is split into 3 sectors Transportation, Telecommunications & Post. Transportation is split by 3 main sectors Land Transport, Civil Aviation and Ports & Maritime Affairs. These 3 directorates govern the respective sectors within the Kingdom.

Within port affairs MTT is responsible for the regulation of:

  • Bahrain Ports and Private Jetty Operations and Performance
  • Licensing of port and marine commercial activities
  • Ports Technical Services including (control tower, harbor, etc.)
  • Bahrain Logistic Zones administration and promotion
  • Ports Security
  • Development of the Shipping and Logistics Sector

Within maritime affairs MTT is responsible for overseeing and regulating:

  • All maritime activities within Bahrain territorial waters
  • Registration of commercial vessels
  • Registration and regulation of small boats
  • Issuance of relevant certificates
  • Maritime Safety
  • Environment Protection
  • Enforcement of International standards
