Seasons Greetings from IPCSA
IPCSA wishes Seasons Greetings to all our members, partners, regional and international organisations that have help make 2018 an eventful year. The hard work and commitment of our members who play a key role in Trade Facilitation across and Electronic Exchange of Information the world, have ensured the Association grows and develops.
IPCSA has welcome new members from across the globe, including Port of Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Djibouti Port Community Systems, Djibouti; SEGUCE RC, Democratic Republic of Congo; Port of Los Angeles, United States of America; Trade-Van, Taiwan and Prince Rupert Port Authority, Canada. IPCSA members now operate in excess of 40 countries, covering over 200 seaports, airports and border crossings, which handle in excess of 500mTEU's and 10 billion tonnes of cargo. This is the equivalent to at least 40 million electronic messages exchanged daily.
IPCSA also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Alibaba and LOGINK in China to create greater visibility in logistics. The IPCSA Annual Conference brought together experts from both trade and government bodies from around the world and was hosted by PortNet Morocco in Casablanca, in conjunction with a UNECE Single Window Conference and the PortNet Annual Conference. The two days of conference attracted over 800 registered participants from across the world.
Members have also participated in numerous international standards meetings and workshops including ISO, WCO, UN/CEFACT and IMO supporting and advising on how these development scan help facilitate trade.
IPCSA visited Africa, South America, North America, Europe and Asia in its role as an ambassador for trade facilitation and the electronic exchange of information, supporting Inter-Governmental Organisations around the world to provide neutral advice and guidance on topics including Single Window, Port Community Systems and Logistics and Customs information flows.
Hans Rook IPCSA Chairman, on behalf of IPCSA, presented Richard Morton, IPCSA Secretary General with the Piet Jan ten Thije award in recognition of being the “engine” behind IPCSA. The recognition is in honour of Piet Jan ten Thije, a vice-chairman of IPCSA, and who was taken before his time in 2014 leaving behind a wife and family. IPCSA wanted to recognise Piet Jan’s passion, energy and enthusiasm for ports, logistics and Community Systems and to honour his commitment to IPCSA.
2019 looks to be an even busier year with the new proposal for an EU Maritime Single Window emerging within the European Union, further development of how countries will implement the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, and exciting opportunities to exchange information globally. In addition new technologies such as Blockchain are emerging with IPCSA is playing it’s role.
